VACANCY – POST OF DIRECTOR
Applications / Nominations are invited from citizens of Sri Lanka for the post of Director, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya up to 17.11.2020. Eminent persons either in the university system or outside are eligible to apply.
Preference will be given to those with experience of working in health system.
The Director shall be a full-time officer of the Institute and shall be the Principal Executive Officer, the Principal Academic Officer and the Accounting Officer. He / She shall be responsible for the maintenance of discipline within the Institute.
He/She shall be an ex-officio member and the Chairman of the Board of Management. He/ She is expected to provide academic and administrative leadership to the Institute and also liaise with relevant ministries (such as Education, Health and Indigenous Medicine), the University Grants Commission, the Universities and the Department of Ayurveda.
01. Educational Qualifications:
Should possess a Bachelor’s Degree and Postgraduate Degree, from a recognized University.
Or
Should possess an Ayurveda Diploma of five (05) years duration and a Postgraduate Degree, from a recognized University.
Administrative or Managerial experience of 10 years will be an added qualification.
02. Age:
Applicants/Nominees should be citizens of Sri Lanka and shall be less than 63 years of age on the closing date of applications.
03. Salary Scale:
Rs. 117,350 -13×2700 -152,450/- p.m. U-AC5(II) and allowances applicable to the post. If the applicant is a teacher as defined in the Universities Act, drawing a salary higher than the above, he/she will be placed at the salary drawn at present with academic allowance and other allowances as per UGC Circulars.
NB: Those who are presently in Government service and drawing a salary exceeding the initial of the above salary scale will be placed at an equivalent salary point.
The terms and conditions of appointment will be governed by the provisions of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 (as amended) and the Institute of Indigenous Medicine Ordinance No. 7 of 1979 (as amended) made thereafter.
04. Terms of Office:
Three (03) years from the date of appointment, or the 65th brithday, whichever occurs earlier.

06. Submission of Applications:
Applicants / Nominees are requested to furnish a self-prepared application along with detailed Curriculum Vitae including the date of birth, names and addresses of two nonrelated referees; the applicant’s vision for the development of the Institute together with a brief account of what he/she proposes to achieve if appointed according to the UGC Circular 7/2020. In case the incumbent Director is an applicant, he/she should submit a report highlighting the contributions made during the current tenure of office in addition to the documents mentioned above.
The applications should be sent under registered cover addressed to the Deputy Registrar, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya, to reach the office on or before 17.11.2020. The post applied for should be indicated on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
Those from the Public Service, Corporations, Statutory Boards and Higher Educational Institutions / Institutes should forward their applications through the respective Heads of such institutes.
Applications which are incomplete or illegible or do not conform to the requirements mentioned above or received after the closing date will be rejected without prior notice.
